Interactive Outreach Activities make School Green Awards a win-win programme for schools and community

Singapore, 10 November 2016 – From a humble beginning of 28 submissions, the SEC-StarHub School Green Awards (SGA) witnessed an impressive growth of more than 14 times by reaching out to over 406,000 students in 405 schools, capturing about 56% of the student population in Singapore this year. The realisation of ‘starting young’ can be seen in the almost 50% increase in the number of preschools alone.

10 Journalists and Media Organisations Recognised for Stellar Reporting on diverse Environmental Issues

SINGAPORE, 12 October 2016 – A record of 234 entries was received for this year’s Asian Environmental Journalism Awards (AEJA), representing a 34% surge from the previous year. Five years into its run, AEJA – which recognises and rewards outstanding environmental journalists who put Asia’s environmental issues at the forefront through quality reporting, arresting images and compelling facts – has noticeably gained traction across 20 countries, including first-time participant, Azerbaijan.

Shipping makes green waves with top environmental award

Singapore, 20 July 2016 – It was a double scoop for the maritime industry as Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics AS (Singapore Branch) (WWL), a Swedish/Norwegian shipping and logistics company received both the SEC-CDL Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award and the inaugural SEC-MPA Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Maritime). This is the second consecutive year that a maritime organisation has stood out amongst all recipients, reinforcing the importance of environmental sustainability both on land and at sea. Seven organisations received awards under the six categories at the awards ceremony this afternoon.

North West Eco Trails bring Singapore’s green lungs closer to residents

Covering close to 30 kilometres across the North West District, North West Eco Trails will feature 10 different scenic routes for residents to explore thriving flora and fauna in the wilderness of Singapore’s green lungs. Organised by North West Community Development Council (CDC) and in partnership with Singapore Environment Council (SEC), the Launch of North West Eco Trails will be graced by Guest-of-Honour Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District, on Sunday, 15 May 2016 at Dairy Farm Nature Park. SEC strengthens Singapore Green Labelling Schem

Singapore, 25 April 2016 – The Singapore Green Labelling Scheme (SGLS) is one of the most established type 1 eco-labelling scheme that authorises the use of environmental labels on products indicating overall environmental preferability within a particular product category based on life cycle considerations. With more than 3,000 unique products certified across 29 countries, SGLS has been providing consumers and commercial organisations the option to procure green products for over two decades.

SEC Renews APRIL’s PaperOne Singapore Green Label

Schools lead the way in environmental sustainability

Singapore, 5 November 2015 – Now entering its 15th year, the SEC-StarHub School Green Awards (SGA) sees a consistent year-on-year increase in schools participating in Singapore’s leading school environmental programme. Since 2000, participation has increased more than 10-fold from 28 to 376 educational institutions this year. The bulk of the increase comes from pre-schools and schools for students with special needs, which reflects the all-inclusive spirit of the SGA as well as the importance that every individual plays in taking responsibility for the environment.
